Tournament Format

  • 4-on-4 Hockey
  • Teams of maximum 6 Players, allowing for 2 subs
  • Guaranteed 5 games for each team
  • Games are 30 minutes in duration, 2 – 15 minute running time periods with a 5 minute break between
  • No Goaltenders

Ice Surface

  • Outside on Logan Lake
  • The rinks will measure approximately 135 feet by 65 feet
  • Surface will be scraped between games if needed
  • Nets are 8 inches tall and 6 feet wide

Tournament Rules

  • All players must wear hockey skates and hockey helmets. Other protective equipment is optional but highly recommended.
  • No goalie equipment or goal sticks permitted.
  • All teams must have home (white) and away (dark) uniforms.
  • There will be one off-ice official to monitor play (scoring, time, puck reset, and arbiter of infractions).
  • Penalties will be called for rule infractions. Penalties called on honour system. A minor penalty will result in a goal awarded to opposing team as well as possession of the puck.
  • Any major penalties which include any action that could possibly injure another player will result in ejection from the tournament. Team(s) of ejected player(s) will finish the game with only three players on the ice. If the ejection(s) happen(s) in the last five minutes of a game the team(s) finishes that game with three skaters plus plays the next game with three skaters. Off-ice Pond Official will determine major penalties.
  • Abuse of an official will be considered a major penalty. This includes yelling, swearing, or arguing about calls.
  • No body checking is allowed. Such action will result in a minor penalty. Unless deemed serious enough to be a major penalty.
  • Goaltending will be defined as a player standing consistently with their back to the net within a 10×10 imaginary box and not participating in the play i.e. not going after the puck in the corners, not checking other players and not in movement toward the play. Players cannot fall or lay on the ice in an effort to protect the goal area. Such action will result in a minor penalty. Players cannot lay their sticks on the ice in an effort to protect the goal area. Such action will also result in a minor penalty.
  • Contacting the puck with a stick above the waist will result in a loss of possession.
  • If a puck goes out of bounds, the last team to touch it loses possession. During restart, the defender must give the opponent a 2-stick lengths of space.
  • There are no off-sides or icing calls.
  • Goals must be scored from the attacking side of center ice and then must touch up and resume regular play.
  • Teams must give their opponents ½ ice after a goal is scored, or an infraction takes place.
  • There are no overtime periods in round robin play. During playoff games teams will play a 3 minute overtime. The team that scores the most will be declared the winner. If the score remains tied at the end of the 3 minute overtime, play will continue unabated and the first team to score wins.
  • Teams are allowed to lift the puck, at no more than 12” (inches) off the ice. Raising the puck at a greater height will result in the puck being awarded to the opposing team (Change of possession).
  • No slap shots allowed. Stick blades must remain on the ice during play.
  • All major rule infractions will result in a goal being awarded to the opposing team as well possession of the puck. These include tripping, hooking, slashing, body contact, elbowing, etc.
  • All major rules infractions which include fighting, swearing, abuse of any official, or committee member, volunteer, or intent to injure will result in an ejection from the tournament with no substitution allowed for the offending players’ team and a goal being awarded to the opposing team as well as possession of the puck
  • Only players on the roster, and have signed waivers will be permitted to play for insurance reasons.
  • Teams not dressed and ready for their game will forfeit after 10 minutes unless they have phoned with a valid reason. The opposing team will win 1-0.
